Hello everyone! If you feel to lazy too go to the store to stock up on tea, are new to tea, or want to try something fun, how about a tea subscription box sent right to your door? I was super excited when this company reached out to me, because it is such a cool concept. They have four different boxes you can choose from and you get four teas in each box, once a month or every other month. You can choose how many months you want to commit to for no more than $25, which is a great deal for the amount of tea you get! You could even buy the teas individually on their website as well. Today I'm reviewing the August Original Box from The Tea Runners.
First up, the Wild Thai Black. Look at that beautiful blend and that gorgeous red tinted brew! The tea is a very smooth and gentle black tea. You do not get the bitterness, even when steeped longer than the instructions. I was even able to leave my tea leaves steeping the whole time while I was drinking it. It is a little light-tasting at first, but I was very impressed with the quality. 9/10
Next up, the Famous Six Mountains Pu-Erh. Admittedly, I was nervous to try this one. My last and only experience with Pu Erh was not positive. I have definitely changed my mind after trying this one. For those that don't know, Pu Erh is sun-dried or aged green tea leaves. This one in particular is a fantastic introduction to Pu-Erh. It's light, woodsy (but not too in your face about it), and smooth. 10/10.
The Lemon Ginger Yerba Mate is just fantastic. It's actually award winning, even (seriously, check it out in the link)! This is a perfect tea to wake up to with caffeinated mate, the bright citrus, and spicy ginger. It's a perfectly balanced blend with each flavor shining through. This one is also a 10/10
The Blueberry Rooibos has been hit or miss for me. The first time I tried it, there was a funky taste to it. I couldn't tell exactly what was off, but it was as if two flavors just clashed completely. The only thing I can think of is either the natural flavoring was off or something about the elderberry or schizandra berries (a sweet, sour, and bitter berry, used as an adaptogen to decrease stress). Or maybe the water was too hot and spoiled one of the flavors. Not sure! But the second and third times I've made this tea, I didn't use as hot of water, and I didn't have the same strange off-putting taste. It does have a fantastic blueberry flavor. The rooibos is a bit drying, however. My recommendation for this tea is to brew per the instructions and see if you like it. It's worth a try, but does have a flavor that might not be for everyone. 6/10 on this one.
Overall, I was pretty impressed with the August Box. Overall, it is a 8.75/10. I would definitely try out another box from them, or even a subscription.
Happy Tea Drinking
